The Coro Fellows in Public affairs program lured Alderwoman Green to St. Louis in 2005, and she’s been dedicated to the community ever since. Alderwomen Green first was elected in represent the 15th Ward in a Special Election in October of 2014 and was later re-elected in March of 2016.

Prior to running for office, Alderwoman Green worked with a variety of non-profit organizations including Shalom House, Lemay Child and Family Center, and Childcare Aware of Missouri, and also spent a brief time teaching in St. Louis Public Schools. While confronted with inequities as a St. Louis Public School teacher and serving in leadership positions with early childhood education nonprofits, Alderwoman Green earned a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from St. Louis University. Currently, she is now in the final stage of completing her PhD in Education Policy with a focus on the political feasibility of the socioeconomic integration of School Districts in the St. Louis Region. Alderwoman Green also holds a BA in Political Science from Penn State University.

Since assuming office, Alderwoman Green has become the progressive champion of St. Louis, fighting for a $15 minimum wage, civilian oversight of our police department, reproductive rights for women, and responsible development with community benefits. She has been an outspoken supporter of the Black Lives Matter movement to address racial disparities that exist within the St. Louis Community, and nation. She also currently sits on the Continuum of Care to end homelessness in the St. Louis Region.

As a result of her activism, Alderwoman Green was presented the 24th Annual Hershel Walker Peace and Justice Award from the Worker’s Education Society, and the 2017 Martin Luther King Human Rights Award from the Coalition of Black Trade Unions.

After being a surrogate for Bernie Sander’s Campaign for President, in 2016, Alderwoman Green was elected to represent Missouri as a Member of the Democratic National Committee for the next four years and also sits on the Executive Committee for the Missouri Democratic Party. In such roles, Alderwoman Green ensures that the needs of St Louis are heard at both the State and National levels.
